General Session: Burglary Victim Adaptations & What Security Businesses Should Know Victims of burglaries have been the subject of minimal research during the last two decades. And most of the existing research does not focus on the details of the crime and/or precautions taken by the victim, both before and after the burglary occurred. During this session, we will reveal the results of ground-breaking research on residential burglary victims for the very first time. We’ll uncover insights into how victims of residential burglaries change their safety practices after an invasion and their surprising odds of being victimized again. Interactive Session: What Keeps You Up at Night? 2017 Edition The popular discussion of “What Keeps You Up at Night” continues at Leadership Summit by elaborating on the issues that cause you sleepless nights. This year's facilitator, Steve Firestone, will be asking the audience and the on-stage thought provokers their thoughts on topics that disrupt company owners and manager’s days and nights. This year’s passionate discussion will focus on two subjects: the impact DIY products are having on the industry, and the changing needs of the customer experience. Audience members will have the opportunity to participate in the discussion using their smart phones, making this a true interactive session where all attendees are encouraged to share their thoughts. Seminar: Leadership Through Storytelling In this hands-on workshop, participants learn how to craft compelling business stories that resonate with their audience to drive people to action. Based on Paul Smith's best-selling book, “Lead with a Story: A Guide to Crafting Business Narratives that Captivate, Convince, and Inspire,” session topics include structuring business stories (context, conflict, resolution, hero, villain, plot, etc.) plus the appropriate use of emotion, surprise, dialogue, and finding the right story for any situation. Bring a story to class. You’ll need it. Throughout the course, participants are challenged with exercises and follow a one-page story assessment scorecard and roadmap to more effective stories.
